Reminded me of Starship Troopers in a weird way. I think knowing the big reveal due to the movie's popularity takes a lot out of reading this, but I feel like it was pretty obvious what was happening fairly early on anyway. Not a huge fan of the constant jumpcuts and weird storytelling style, but the message was interesting. Another one hard to give a score to because I didn’t really enjoy it but I don’t think that is the point.

Fight Club Summary
The story is told in a jumpy manner, starting with a scene and then not returning there until the end.
An unnamed protagonist (Who sometimes refers to himself as Joe), is being held at gunpoint on the roof of the Parker-Morris building, which is about to be blown up, by Tyler Durden.
The narrator is getting crushed in an embrace by “Big Bob”, a large man who has recently grown boobs. He is a member of a testicular cancer support group which the narrator has been attending for 2 years. The narrator had been suffering from insomnia and instead of giving him sleeping pills his doctor told him to go to support groups for terminal illnesses. The narrator goes to a different one each night and seeing the suffering of the people there lets him sleep.
His ritual has been ruined though since a woman named Marla Springer has begun showing up to all the same groups, and knowing that someone knows he is faking stops him from getting the same cathartic release that allows him to sleep. They negotiate a schedule so they can split which supports groups they go to so they don’t have to see each other.
Tyler Durden, the man who was holding a gun in the narrator's mouth at the start, works at night as a movie projectionist. The narrator works as a car recall specialist, spending most of his time flying around the country to inspect defective cars, normally ones that ended in a crash and caused people to die. Seeing this and how his company decides to leave the defective cars out if it is cheaper turns him more and more cynical. This seems to be what caused his insomnia, and he decided to take a vacation, which is when he met Tyler at a nude beach.
After one flight, when the narrator returns home, he discovers his bag got kept by a bomb squad because it vibrated. He arrives home to find his condo blown up, probably from a gas leak. He calls Tyler and they get a drink, and the narrator asks to live with him. Tyler says yes but the narrator has to do one favor for him, hit Tyler as hard as he possibly can.
Tyler and the Narrator start Fight Club, where the first rule is you don’t talk about fight club. The narrator's boss starts to wonder what is happening to him due to him always showing up covered in bruises and stitches.
The Narrator and Tyler live on Paper Street together. The narrator gets a call from Marla but ignores it. Tyler goes to where she is staying at the Regent hotel and calls the police because she accidentally overdosed on Xanax. Tyler saves Marla and she tells him she wants to have his abortion. Marla and Tyler start dating and the narrator is jealous.
The narrator needs to make soap to clean his bloody clothes, and asks Tyler for help. He has begun to wonder if Tyler and Marla are the same person, since they are never in the room at the same time. It reminds the narrator of living with his estranged parents as a child, before his dad abandoned him. They boil fat and use it to make soap, another but some of the byproducts of this can also be used to make nitroglycerine. Marla comes back with some powdered Lye, and later Tyler kisses the narrator's hand then dumps lye on it, burning and scarring him.
Tyler also works as a hotel waiter, and got the narrator a job there also. Together they routinely sabotage the food of the rich guests. Today, Tyler is peeing into a bunch of soup. The first time Tyler did something like this he left a note for a rich lady saying he urinated in one of her perfume bottles, despite not having done so. The lady freaked out, and thought her husband did it to her to hide him cheating on her.
Tyler started the Paper Street Soap Company and is doing surprisingly well. The narrator and Tyler are hiding out drinking beer in a used car somewhere to stay away from Marla. Tyler got all of Marla’s mail sent to their house, and they have been using the fat Marla’s mother gets removed from liposuction to make the soap. Her mother sends the fat to Marla to use for collagen lip filler, but Marla discovered what Tyler had done and attacked the narrator.
The narrator’s boss discovers the list of rules for fight club. Tyler asked the narrator to print 10 copies, but because he is so sleep deprived he forgot to grab the original. The narrator implies he is a psychopath and will murder his boss, plus he knows all the shady stuff the company does about recalling cars so his boss leaves him alone.
Marla forgives the narrator and is worried she has cancer. One time a doctor saw the birthmark on the narrator's foot and stopped everyone around them because he thought it was a new type of cancer, but they soon realized it was just a birthmark. The narrator returns to the testicular cancer support group but only Big Bob is there, who tells him everyone is going to a new group now, but you aren’t supposed to talk about it. Apparently there are fight clubs all over, on other days of the week, and it has attracted dying and sick people like Bob.
Cops are still looking into how the narrator's condo blew up, and interrogate him about it but he claims he loved his old life. Tyler and the narrator blackmail the managers of the theater and hotel Tyler used to work at. The theater because Tyler used to splice nude photos into every movie, and the hotel for the stuff they did to the food. Tyler uses the extra money to start more fight cubs all over.
Tyler starts something called Project Mayhem, which sends people from fight club to do crime all over. The narrator no longer gets the same joy or sense of life he used to feel from fight club, and Tyler says Project Mayhem is the next step.
Tyler and the narrator begin recruiting people for the project. Potential members come to their house on Paper Street with almost nothing and are forced to wait for days before being allowed in. They call these men space monkeys and start by having them just make and sell soap, but eventually give them more and more tasks. Tyler seems to vanish and the narrator goes looking for him and asking space monkeys if they know where he is, but due to the rules of not asking questions no one says anything. Marla spends more time with the narrator but is worried about him and the whole situation.
The narrator gets in a car after work with 3 space monkeys, one of whom is a mechanic. The mechanic drives them into oncoming traffic until each member says one thing he wishes he did differently in his life. The narrator has a young man held at gunpoint, and says he is going to kill him. Tyler wants every member of Project Mayhem to bring back a number of driver licenses. The narrator makes the kid admit he wants to be a vet, and says he will keep checking back and if the kid is ever not in veterinary school he will kill him.
The narrator keeps searching for Tyler but people are treating him strangely, and he eventually confronts Marla and she says he is Tyler Durden. The narrator tries to get people to understand that he is not Tyler but people don’t believe him. Tyler confronts him and says since he told people about Tyler, Tyler will never see him again. Tyler is who the narrator becomes when he falls asleep. The narrator thought he had insomnia but it was actually just Tyler taking over his body. The narrator can feel the things Tyler knows becoming things he knows.
Tyler has used Project Mayhem members to castrate or threaten castration to powerful men who have tried to shut down fight club. More and more people keep joining their anarchist cause. The narrator meets to talk to Marla and explain the difference between him and Tyler. He wants her to follow him around and keep him awake or track what he does.
Big Bob dies while working for Project Mayhem, causing the narrator to want to shut everything down. He tried going to a fight club and saying he is Tyler Durden but they just escort him out. The narrator keeps seeing people with fight club injuries who call him sir and track him, he wants to get away. He returns to his office but sees police and firemen, someone blew up the building and he knows his boss is dead. He knows this because Tyler knows this.
He leaves without going in, but on the bus he is caught by a group of space monkeys who say they are now going to castrate him, and he (Tyler) apparently instructed them what to do when this happened. He tries to escape but they knock him out with drugs. He wakes up intact in his old condo, which he knows Tyler/him blew up. He calls Marla and they meet at a cancer support group.
He keeps trying to explain the difference between Tyler and himself, and basically tells Marla he likes her and she is what keeps him alive. Marla is furious because he/Tyler killed a man in front of her.
The narrator goes to one last fight club and gets beat up bad. Tyler appears back at home and says it is time for him to become a martyr. They cut back to the scene from the start on top of the Parker-Morris building, but Marla shows up and Tyler vanishes, leaving the narrator holding a gun to his own mouth. Marla says she likes him too, and the building does not blow up because Tyler mixed paraffin into the explosives which never works. The narrator says he has to kill Tyler and shoots himself.
He wakes up in a hospital which he describes as heaven. He misses Marla but does not want to return to the real world. Many members of the mental hospital have fight club injuries and call him sir and say the plan continues and they are excited for Mr. Durden to return. THE END.
